How to setup PingID on your smartphone for remote multi-factor authentication

Introduction

If you need to access Franklin County email, calendars, contacts, OneDrive contents, our VPN, and many other services from remote sites (home, coffee shop, hotel, etc.) you must use a smartphone app called PingID.

This Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) app protects County data from security threats like account/password theft and remote user impersonation. In short, it proves you are who you say you are by combining something you know (your password) with something you have (your smartphone).The instructions below explain how to get PingID installed and setup on your smartphone.

When setting up MFA on a new smartphone device, please download the PingID app from your device's app store prior to completing these steps. Using the PingID app is recommended as it provides for a faster authentication process with a simple swipe to confirm you’re logging in.

Instructions

  1. On your smartphone, download PingID from the iOS App Store or Google Play.

    1. Get PingID for your iPhone on the App Store OR

    2. Get PingID for your Android on Google Play

  2. From a desktop or laptop PC, open your web browser and go to PingID MFA Setup

  3. Enter your username and password at the Ping Sign On prompt

  4. Click Start button

  5. Open PingID app on your smartphone device and tap the QR scan button

  6. Scan the QR code on the computer screen

  7. Respond “yes” to the Ping MFA prompt on your device.

  8. You’ll be presented with a Welcome message. You can click Get Started to learn more about PingID, or click Dismiss.

  9. Now that you’re logged in to the PingID system, you can click the person icon in the upper-right corner and select Devices to see what devices you have configured.

  10. You can add more devices or edit the devices there if you like. For example, you may want more than one way to be contacted by PingID, in case you don’t have your primary device with you.
