How to Use Remote Desktop (RDP) on a Mac

Install

  • Download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client from the Map App Store - Microsoft Remote Desktop application

     

 

Configuration

  • Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop application

  • Click the "+" icon

  • Click on “Add PC”

  • Enter the computer name of the remote computer to connect to.

  • For User Account you have to options

    • Leave default to prompt when connecting (Ask when required), or

    • Click the dropdown and select Add User Account

    • Enter user name - including the domain - example - fcdcdom1\yourusername

    • Enter password

    • Enter a Friendly name you will remember

    • Click on Add to go back to the “Add PC” page

  • Enter a Friendly name - suggestion is your PC name

  • Leave gateway as “No Gateway”

  • Click Add

 

Connecting

  • Double click on your PC Name, or friendly name tile

  • Click Show Certificate

  • Click Always Trust to prevent seeing this warning again for the PC specified

  • Click Continue

  • You should not be connected
