How to setup a pair of Poly Sync 60 speakerphones to work with your laptop for large-room Zoom or Teams calls

Introduction

The Poly Sync 60 speakerphone is a great addition to your PC (or tablet or smartphone) anytime you need to host a Zoom or Teams (or similar) conference call in a sizable room where everyone needs to be heard clearly by remote participants. And if one Poly Sync 60 is good, two of them working as a pair is even better!

The concept is that you connect the speakerphones to your laptop PC (or other Bluetooth-enabled device) and place them strategically in a large conference room so everyone is heard. The Poly Sync 60 devices are loud, have great audio quality, and have built-in features that reduce background noise and allow for smooth two-way communication.

These instructions explain how to do initial setup on a Windows 10 PC and how to link up again for future meetings.

How to setup a Poly Sync 60 pair on your PC the first time

On the Windows PC you plan to use for Zoom / Teams calls, do the following:

[1] Navigate to... Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices (menu at left)

Leave this screen up while you setup the speakers in the next couple steps – you’ll come back to your PC shortly.

[2] Plug in both AC adapters to wall power (one for each speakerphone)

[3] Insert the power adapter cable into the power port on the bottom of the first speakerphone (ideally labeled Speaker 1 of 2), then wait about 10 seconds

[4] Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the top of the speakerphone for 2 seconds, until you hear the voice say “pairing” and see the white and blue lights pulsing

[5] Go back to your PC and click the Add Bluetooth or other device option on your screen

[6] Click the Bluetooth option in the list on-screen

[7] When the list of devices updates, you should see Poly Sync 60 in the list -- click it

You will hear “pairing successful” and see a message like this:

[8] Click the Done button

To add the second Poly Sync 60 to your setup, paired with the first one, continue to the next step.

[9] Plug the second Poly Sync 60 speakerphone into power (ideally Speaker 2 of 2), and wait a few seconds

You will hear “no phone is connected” when the speakerphone is ready.

[10] Locate the speaker sync button on the end of each Sync 60 speakerphone; press and hold the button on both speakers for 2 seconds, until each one says “connecting”

The speakerphones should find one another and link up automatically. When the link is made, you will hear “connection successful” from both speakers.

You are now ready to host your Zoom or Teams call. You can move the Poly Sync 60 speakerphones around in the room to maximum coverage.

Each Poly Sync 60 has 6 microphones and picks up audio from all directions around the device. Space the devices in the room so that all meeting attendees are picked up evenly by the mics.

[11] When your meeting or call is done, you can simply unplug the Poly Sync 60 speakerphones and set them aside, or leave them in place for future meetings.

If you leave them turned on and walk away with the laptop, the laptop will maintain its Bluetooth connection until you’re either out of range or you manually disconnect in Windows. Keep this in mind because you don’t want your PC audio to play audibly in the conference room when you’re not there!

If you leave the speakerphones turned on for an extended period without audio playback, they may disconnect from your PC. To reconnect, unplug both speakers and follow the reconnection steps below.

How to reconnect the Poly Sync 60 speakerphone pair for future meetings on the same PC

The Poly Sync 60 speakerphone should “remember” the Bluetooth link with your laptop PC over multiple sessions. And your laptop should remember the speakerphone. So for follow-up meetings, when you turn on Speaker 1 (of 2), it should automatically link up with your PC instantly.

Assuming you’re going back to the same laptop with the same Poly Sync 60 pair, here are the setup steps:

[1] Take the following steps in rapid succession, because timing matters when turning the speakerphones back on:

  • Place the first speakerphone (Speaker 1 of 2) on the table near the location where you plan to use it.

  • Locate the speaker sync button on the end of the speakerphone (near the dual USB ports); be ready to press it about 1 second after plugging in AC power

  • Plug AC power into the first speakerphone; 1 second later press and hold the speaker sync button for about 2 seconds

  • The speakerphone will say “connecting” and the speaker lights will pulse blue and white

  • You should also hear the speakerphone say “PC connected” once Bluetooth connects to your PC

[2] Plug the second Poly Sync 60 speakerphone into power (Speaker 2 of 2), and wait a few seconds

You will hear “no phone is connected” when the speakerphone is ready.

[3] Locate the speaker sync button on the second speakerphone; press and hold the speaker sync button for 2 seconds

You will hear “connection successful” from both speakers when the two speakerphones link up.

[4] When your meeting or call is done, you can simply unplug the Poly Sync 60 speakerphones and set them aside, or leave them in place for future meetings.
