Install Updates via Dell Command | Update

Introduction

Often times, software/hardware issues are resolved by updates released by the hardware Manufacturer. Dell offers software that allows us to search for driver, firmware, and software updates for specific computers and other equipment provided by Dell. This software is called Dell Command.

If you do not have Dell Command installed on your computer, follow this link for instructions on how to obtain it: https://franklincountyohio.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/~61ea183408c1f7006a4097a6/pages/1204322305

Instructions

Follow these steps to utilize Dell Command to install available updates.

  1. Locate the Dell Command | Update shortcut in the Start Menu, and click to open.

  2. On the first run, you may receive a prompt to automatically check for updates. You may select any option, but it is recommended to leave it at the default setting.

  3. Click the Check button in order to allow Dell Command | Update to search your computer and identify any necessary updates.

  4. Depending on how current your computer is, you may have several updates, or like in the example below, a single update. If the options are available, check the Critical Updates, Recommended Updates, and Optional Updates (and Dell Docking Solution if shown under Recommended updates). You also have the option to Automatically Restart system (when required). This field is optional. Once you have selected the options you need, click the Install button.

  5. Once all of the updates are installed, click the Close button, or Restart button, whichever is available (be sure you have all work saved prior to clicking Restart)

  6. Once your computer finishes restarting, you have completed installing the available updates in Dell Command | Update.

If you have any troubles during the update process, or continue to experience any issues after completing these updates, please contact the Data Center Helpdesk at 614-525-3282.
