Using Your Privileged Account

There are three common uses for using your privileged account which are listed below:

Jump Box

Login to a server or desktop machine using your privileged account, using that server or desktop as a jump box to be able to do tasks that your privileged account can do, but your regular user account should not be able to do.

Shift-Right-Click to Access Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT)

Use the “Shift-Right-Click” method from your regular user session on your normal machine. Simply holding down the Shift key while you right-click on a RSAT icon or shortcut to get additional menu options. In this case, “Run as different user”. Then, using your privileged login with the password you copy from CyberArk.

If on VPN, anticipate that RSAT tools in use will run slower than if you are on-site. In some cases, you may experience time outs.

Run As Different User

This method is a combo of the two methods described previously.  Connect over remote desktop using your regular account to a machine on the network, and then use the “Shift-Right-Click” method to launch the app under “Run as a different user” option using your privileged account.
