In the past it was possible for email Distribution List (DL) owners to edit list memberships using the Outlook app. Unfortunately, Outlook can’t edit DL memberships in the Office 365 environment.
However, there is still a way for owners of DLs to edit those lists. Check out the details below.
Who is this for?
You would like to update an existing email Distribution List (DL) within the Franklin County email system (add members, remove members)
You are already configured as the formal “Owner” of that DL
Instructions
[1] Open the File Explorer app
On Windows 10, you can click the Start button and type “explorer” – the app icon will appear in the search results list and you can click it
[2] Click the Network icon in the lower-left part of the Explorer window
[3] Click the Search Active Directory button in the toolbar near the top of the Explorer window
[4] You’ll see a pop-up window labeled Find Users, Contacts, and Groups
If you’re not sure of the exact DL name, you can search for the start of the name, or you can use the Advanced tab to do a more precise search.
[5] Once you’ve found the list(s) you need, double-click the name of the DL you’d like to edit
[6] The DL will pop open in a new window. From here you can Add or Remove members using the buttons below the list of DL members.
[7] When Adding members to the list, you’ll get another pop-up window that allows you to search the Directory for people to add to the list. You can add multiple people at once. Click OK when done.
[8] To complete the changes, be sure to click all the required OK buttons to close out of the pop-up windows.
It may take up to 30 minutes for the DL membership change to take effect.
