Introduction

If you need to access Franklin County email, calendars, contacts, OneDrive contents, our VPN, and many other services from remote sites (home, coffee shop, hotel, etc.) you must use a smartphone app called PingID.

This Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) app protects County data from security threats like account/password theft and remote user impersonation. In short, it proves you are who you say you are by combining something you know (your password) with something you have (your smartphone). The instructions below explain how to get PingID installed and setup on your smartphone.

We recommend you install PingID on a smartphone and not on a tablet, since your smartphone is more portable and more likely to be with you everywhere.

In the event that you need to change to a new device/phone number, please follow the instructions here: Updating your device or phone number? (multi-factor authentication)

Don’t have a smartphone? You can setup PingID without a smartphone using these instructions.

Instructions

  1. On your smartphone, download PingID from the iOS App Store or Google Play.

  2. From a desktop or laptop PC, open your web browser and go to pingsetup.franklincountyohio.gov

  3. Sign in using your typical Windows / network username and password

  4. On the PingID page presented, click the button labeled ”I already have the app installed”

  5. On your smartphone, open the PingID mobile app (downloaded in step 1)

    1. If prompted, allow the PingID app to use your smartphone camera

  6. Aim your smartphone camera at the QR code on your PC screen; your phone will read the code and start to configure your PingID profile.

  7. On the “Complete Your Profile” page, enter a profile nickname of your choosing and click Done

  8. On the next PingID screen, slide the red “iD” button up to complete setup

  9. Once you see the green check mark on your phone saying “Authenticated” you are now enrolled in PingID

  10. You’ll be presented with a Welcome message. You can click Get Started to learn more about PingID, or click Dismiss.

  11. Now that you’re logged in to the PingID system, you can click the person icon in the upper-right corner and select Devices to see what devices you have configured.

You can add more devices or edit the devices there if you like. For example, you may want more than one way to be contacted by PingID, in case you don’t have your primary device with you.

Have a new phone?

If you have both the old and new smartphone available, use these instructions:

Transfer PingID mobile app to a new smartphone

If you’ve already erased or lost the old smartphone, contact the FCDC Help Desk for help (614-525-3282).

Congratulations!

With PingID setup on your smartphone, you’re ready to securely login to County cloud apps and VPN resources from anywhere – home, coffee shops, hotels, etc.
