Intune provides Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile App Management (MAM) however, this section will focus on MDM specifically, giving a brief overview of what it is from an end-user perspective.

As the diagram below shows, historically mobile devices in the Franklin County environment have been considered Non-Managed Devices. Enrollment into Intune is what transitions them into being Intune Managed devices. This enrollment, in a nutshell, installs a management profile on the device which tells it that the Intune Service is now managing it. This enables communication between the device and the Intune service so that various policies and configurations can be pushed to the device from the Intune platform.

The diagram above is vastly simplified, focusing on some of the real core pieces of what happens when a device is enrolled into Intune and the utility it provides to County devices in this way.
