Transfer PingID mobile app to a new smartphone

Introduction:

When you get a new smartphone, you must transfer your PingID profile to the new device. This is a manual process, intended to ensure the move to a new device is deliberate and to ensure it’s really you doing the transfer.

The instructions below explain how to get PingID moved from an old smartphone to a new one, based on a few assumptions:

Instruction Assumptions

  • You are already enrolled in PingID and have the mobile app installed on your old smartphone

  • You’re moving to a new smartphone

  • You have both the old phone and new phone in front of you

After you transfer PingID authentication to your new device, you are no longer able to authenticate on your old device.

Instructions

On your new smartphone, install the PingID mobile app

On the old smartphone, open the PingID mobile app, tap the Gear icon and tap Change Device.

Tap the green Yes button to proceed. Your old device displays a QR code and pairing key.

On your new device, open the PingID mobile app and scan the QR code displayed on the old device (or enter the pairing key manually).

  • Your new device displays a green Authenticated message with a check mark, confirming the pairing of your new device is complete

  • Your old device is unpaired

  • Your organization is added to PingID

Congratulations!

The next time you sign on to your Franklin County account or app (that requires MFA), you are prompted to authenticate on your new device.
